Route Commentary

Our first cycling day starts at the source of the Danube in Donaueschingen. We'll follow the young river through the scenic Baar region and into the Swabian Alb. The route includes some climbing as we leave the Black Forest, with beautiful views of the Danube valley. Sigmaringen Castle, perched dramatically above the river, welcomes us to our first overnight stop.

Route Commentary

Today's ride takes us through the Upper Danube Nature Park with its stunning limestone cliffs and meandering river. We'll pass through Riedlingen with its picturesque old town and medieval bridges. The route is relatively flat after the initial climb out of Sigmaringen, following the Danube as it grows wider. Our stop in Ersingen offers a peaceful rural setting by the river.

Route Commentary

A gentler day with minimal climbing as we enter the Bavarian Danube valley. We'll cycle through Ulm, home to the tallest church steeple in the world (Ulmer M�nster). The route continues through fertile farmland and small villages. Dillingen's baroque architecture and riverside location make it a charming overnight stop.

Today we follow the Danube through Bavaria's picturesque countryside. Highlights include the historic town of Donauw�rth with its colorful facades and the confluence of the Danube and W�rnitz rivers. Neuburg an der Donau awaits with its impressive Renaissance palace overlooking the river. The day ends with a pleasant ride along the Danube levees.

Our shortest cycling day allows time to explore. We'll pass through Ingolstadt with its impressive fortress architecture before reaching the spa town of Bad G�gging. The route follows the Danube through floodplain forests and past the Weltenburg Abbey, where the Danube breaks through the limestone cliffs at the 'Danube Gorge'. Relax in the thermal baths tonight!

Another relatively short day to explore the UNESCO World Heritage city of Regensburg. The route passes through Kelheim, where we can see the Liberation Hall monument. Regensburg's medieval old town is exceptionally well-preserved, with its 12th-century stone bridge and gothic cathedral. The city's vibrant atmosphere and riverside beer gardens make for a perfect evening.

A leisurely ride downstream through the G�uboden region, Bavaria's fertile agricultural heartland.
